Cell Phone Magic
Three Very Helpful Cell Phone Hints!

Unlock Your Car with Your Cell Phone

Ever lock your keys in your car? Well, if you have your cell phone (and electronic locks) here's what you can do:

- Call someone at home and have them get the extra key or key fob.
- Hold your cell phone about 12 inches from the car door.
- Ask the person at home to hold the key next to the phone and press unlock!
  (works 99% of the time)

Disable a Stolen Phone Permanently
(
Even if the thief changes the SIM card.)

First get your cell phone's serial number.  Press *#06#  Write down the number your phone displays and keep it in a safe place.  If your phone is ever stolen, call your service provider and give them the number.  This will block the handset and make the phone totally useless.

So the thief thinks they just got a really great expensive and unlocked cell phone, but guess what?  You win!

Make an Emergency Call (no matter where you are)

Did you know there is an Worldwide Emergency number for mobile phones?

It is 112.  It works even if you are out of your service coverage area and interestingly, you can dial it even from a locked keypad.  When dialed it will search any existing network to establish an emergency connection.

Checking Cell Phone or iPhone Minutes Used

Want to check to see how many monthly minutes you have left on your cell phone or iPhone?  It's quick and easy!

Cell Phone Carriers:

  • AT&T/Cingular enter *646#
  • T-Mobile enter #646#
  • Verizon enter #646
  • Sprint Nextel enter *4

Check Your iPhone Minutes:

  • From "Home" screen tap on settings
  • Scroll down and tap "Phone"
  • Scroll down and tap "Services"
  • Tap "View My Minutes"
  • You'll see a message that it is retrieving minutes
  • You'll receive a text message with your minutes

What is the Most Important Number You Can Have on Your
Cell Phone?

Answer:

I.
C.E.  (In Case of Emergency)

This one is very important, and everyone should do it.  Paramedics, and other emergency response people now look at cell phones for an ICE number.

This can be a life saver if you are in an accident or have a medical condition, drug allergy etc..  This way emergency people don't need to search through wallets or purses to figure out who you are or who to contact.  They simply press the button!

Very simple to set up: enter a number into your cell phone directory that has I.C.E. for the name, or add it to an existing listing name such as "Mom I.C.E."

Everyone should have an I.C.E. number on their phone.
