Through
out the centuries Festivals have been organized to celebrate nearly any
type of event or experience imaginable. There are festivals
to celebrate life, death, the seasons, the cosmos, and all manner of
purely concocted fantasy. . . costumes, masks and other disguises have
always been a part of that human experience. |

Masks
Yes, they can be a little hot and stuffy but a
decent full-head mask can provide a great effect.
To improve the overall effect, I apply a bit of spirit gum
(Theatrical Adhesive) and glue it to my face around the mouth and
cheeks.
This gives the mask a much more life-like quality . . . and
will really creep people out!
It's a good idea before hand to check yourself for any sensitivities
or allergies to the adhesive. |

Wigs and Makeup
The foundation of any great
costume not requiring a mask . . . is definitely all about hair and
makeup.
Certainly one of
the best examples of that was established by Cassandra Peterson in
her fabulous and outrageous characterization of Elvira.
The Elvira look is pulled off by three key components . . .
The hair: any attempt at a convincing Elvira requires that the hair
be 'right on.' No simply having jet black hair isn't enough.
You have to have her exact styling for it to work.
Make-up: Elvira takes it over the top, so be adventurous and liberal
with the application of the eye makeup. It's all about the
eyes . . . the blood red lips are a bit easier.

And third . . . the cleavage.
Sorry girls, if you want to do Elvira, like Elvira, then it is going
to require the entire package. |

Theme Ideas for Your Next Halloween Party:
Murder Mystery Theatre:
Each person must wear a costume or disguise. As guests
arrive they are given a character role to play (relative to
their costume). As the evening progresses guest are
provided clues through riddles, puzzles and questions to try to
determine who among them is the sinister murderer.
Flash Back:
Costumes are restricted to a period in time, say the 1980s,
where mullets are the rage or way back to the 1950's for side
burns, greasers and poodle skirts. Award prizes for the
most authentic costume or costumed couple.
Animal House:
Yes, the costumes may just transport you back to those days in
the dorm . . . where all you had to work with was a bed sheet!
Venetian Ball:
A true elegant and historic classic! But here you must
make it mandatory that all guest wear a traditional Venetian
Mask and formal attire or costume.
When I Grow Up:
Guest wear the costume or uniform of what ever they wanted to be
when they were six years old.
The Halloween Poker Tournament:
A poker party mixer where costumes are mandatory and the
objective is fun!
