For hundreds of years mankind has reported or documented encounters with unidentifiable flying objects presumably controlled by intelligent beings. Equally, for hundreds of years, governments and even religious leaders throughout the world have denied the evidence or the possible existence of such machines.

Certainly the topic warrants (and receives) considerable hard-line skepticism.  With the very large number of reported incidents around the world, many lacking tangible evidence fall into the category of unsubstantiated speculation.  Oftentimes the reported sightings prove to be a simple case of the mistaken identification of natural weather phenomena like ball lightning, or the alignment of planets or stars viewed under unusual atmospheric conditions.  In other cases, conventional or research aircraft (of earthly origin) are misidentified.  And last, but certainly not least, some are proven to be outright hoaxes.

Every now and then however, there are UFO incidents that defy rational explanation or patent dismissal.  Incidents that involve numerous or highly credible eyewitnesses, and incidents where there are substantive elements of physical evidence that hold up under serious and legitimate scientific investigation.

Now, through the rapid evolution of our own technologies and continued scientific enlightenment into the mysteries of the physical universe, many of the world’s most prominent scientific minds believe that we are on the threshold of making contact with extraterrestrial life.
