PT Cruiser Factoids & Rumors
DaimlerChrysler
Confirms
Production
of the PT Cruiser Convertible

Geneva Auto Show 3/05/2002:
DaimlerChrysler announces that
it will produce a convertible version of the popular PT Cruiser for U.S. and
European markets in 2004.
Chrysler,
first showed the PT Cruiser convertible, dubbed the "Cabrio" and
defined as a 'styling exercise" at the New York Auto Show last year.
The public reaction and interest in the design so overwhelmingly positive
that the Chrysler Group of Daimler decided to take the car into production.
Our guess is that the Convertible will be a bit pricier then current models
and will likely retail at somewhere between $25,000 to $28,000.
Hey, now put the Turbo under the hood . . . and Zuko's got to have one!!
Dream
Cruiser Series Unveiled
Chrysler
group has unveiled two new variations of a "Limited Edition Dream
Cruiser" Series.
Dream Cruiser "Series 1" - First available February 2002,
it is decked out in a special shade of gold paint, chrome badges, and sports way-cool 16 inch chrome wheels.
Dream Cruiser 2 is a "Woody Edition"
The "Woody" will be outfitted with genuine imitation wood
paneling. The "Woody" option will set you back an additional $895.
Availability not yet announced, but Chrysler senior executives say they will
roll out a new version of the PT Cruiser every six months to maintain the
"passion" for the brand.
Chrysler says, "some (models) will be truly breakthrough - could be a
convertible, could be a coupe." Other additions may be just new
paint or special packages.
Chrysler's
goal is to keep the car very innovative, very emotional, and very fresh.

What’s
Coming for 2002 and Beyond?
(Chrysler PT Cruiser Panel - Concept Drawing)
Chrysler’s
hip to what’s going on in the after-market scene and is looking to
capitalize on some of that excitement themselves. Look for factory
"Flames," "Woodys" and "Turbos" in the 2002
and 2003 model year PT Cruiser.
Chrysler’s
also seriously considering a two-door convertible,
but suggested that they most likely won’t release one until the 2004 model
year.
Dealers were shown pictures of these (rumored) new models at the Chrysler
Dealer meeting in Las Vegas in June, so this all sounds pretty real.
The one vehicle missing from their future product preview was a PT Cruiser
two-door Panel Van (that they did show dealers last year), but who
knows, they may bust a move and surprise us all.
Chrysler wants to keep the PT Cruiser interest and excitement at a fever
pitch so they’re going to be doing some very cool things every year now,
so expect them to come out with some frequent surprises down the road.
