The Buell Tiger and Buell's Lightning X1 and Thunderbolt S3

Buell Tiger Sponsored by Buell Motorcycles Cool Rides

When it come to really cool rides, Tom Klassen, a professional air show pilot/performer, seems to have it all wrapped up.  In the air, Tom straps himself into the cockpit of the Buell Tiger, and launches it into an incredible display of aerobatic skill and daring.  The Tiger, seen here on the ground at the Lake in the Hills Air Expo in up-state Illinois, is a small but deceptively powerful, and highly maneuverable stunt plane (with a pretty cool paint scheme too).

The Buell Tiger  is a Russian built Sukhoi Su-26 designed specifically for high-performance aerobatics.  To give this little power house extended capability, the wings and fuselage are constructed of high-strength, light weight carbon fiber.  The powerful nine cylinder, M-14P radial engine generates over 360 horsepower  that allows the Tiger to fly over 3,500 feet, straight up before leveling out on power.  Straight and level, the Tiger easily accelerates to 280 mph.  The awesome little Tiger can be rolled at 400 degrees a second and subjects Klassen to as much as 10Gs during his performance (creating a equivalent body weight of 2,000 lbs.)

On the ground, Tom climbs aboard an equally awesome Buell Lightning X1 motorcycle.

As Cool Rides go, the Buell Thunderbolt S3 leads the pack, this awesome machine is best described as an aggressive sport-touring ride. Powered by a 101-hp Buell Thunderstorm engine, and fueled by a Dynamic Digital Fuel Injection system, this cycle is definitely one to be reckoned with.

Advanced Technology:
Construction of this high-tech cycle is based-on advanced engineering principles.  The principle of "mass centralization" concentrates the greatest amount of mass (the engine, exhaust, and suspension) as close to the center of the motorcycle frame as possible. This reduces frame stress and results in lower polar mount inertia. The "geodesic perimeter" frame design utilizes triangulated sectioning that helps produce maximum frame stiffness. Coupled with a lower un-sprung weight, all this advanced technology makes the S3 a truly unique motorcycle that delivers extremely responsive performance and handling on the road or on the track.
